Bishan Singh Bedi: News
A member of the famed spin quartet of India, Bishan Singh Bedi was known for his slow left-arm orthodox that bamboozled the batsmen. In an era in world cricket where fast bowlers and their aggressive bouncers ruled the scene, Bedi made a place for himself with his undecipherable flight, guile, spin, and pace. He started his cricketing career by playing for Northern Punjab from the age of 15. He then moved to Delhi and represented them in domestic cricket till he retired in 1981. Bedi represented Northamptonshire as well in first-class cricket. He holds the record for most wickets amongst Indian bowlers in first-class cricket. He made his Test debut against West Indies in 1966. Bedi's bowling has been described by many as artistry. A successful wicket-taker, he became the captain of the Indian team in 1976. Under his captaincy, India chased down 406 runs in the fourth innings against the West Indies (then highest chase) in the 1976 series. Bedi retired from international cricket in 1979 and was later appointed as the first full-time coach of team India in 1990.
